THE WHISKEY BROWN STORY

Whiskey Brown’s story is rooted in my youth and flavored by my past. It all began when I was just 14, looking to earn a little money, like most kids do. But instead of getting a typical job, I started a company. A cookie company that, over the years, has grown alongside me. What started in our basement kitchen with simple chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies has evolved into something much bigger. Today, Whiskey Brown is known for gourmet creations like The Hemingway — a whiskey and toffee cookie that has become our signature treat.

Little did I know, nearly 30 years ago, that my search for a little extra money would lay the foundation for everything I know about business. The recipes at Whiskey Brown are a rich mélange of flavors and spices inspired by my travels, life experiences and a deep love of literature — each one crafted to deliver a taste that’s truly unforgettable. I believe Whiskey Brown kept me grounded, off the streets, and firmly on a path toward success. That’s why today, Whiskey Brown proudly gives back to urban communities and charitable organizations that uplift and empower at-risk youth and minorities, especially those with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Why Whiskey?

Why not? While the alcohol bakes off, the bold, complex flavors from the barrel remain. The profiling from the charred oak, the essence of the grains; it all comes together to create rich, robust notes of coconut, vanilla and caramelized sugars. These layers of flavor are what make our cookies truly unforgettable.

How do I decide what to create next?

Sometimes it’s as simple as two flavors coming together in my imagination. Other times, it’s sparked by a conversation — or even something as ordinary as eating blueberry pancakes and thinking, “This would be even better as a cookie.” Whether the inspiration comes from life, literature or a deep love of food, I labor over each pairing until I’ve crafted the perfect flavor profile.

It started with The Hemingway

The Hemingway is our signature cookie, born from my desire to create something meant for adults, but enjoyable for anyone. One evening, with a glass of whiskey in hand, I found myself wondering how to elevate a simple batch of cookies. I stared at the glass, paused, and before I knew it, I was pouring the whiskey into the batter. Then came the toffee. And just like that, The Hemingway was born. The rest, as they say, is history.
